We recently had this McIntosh MA252 with no output in for repair. Although the unit came up and ran fine, there was no audio output. We found no signal getting passed to the main board, isolating the issue to the input board. Tracing the signal from input connectors, we found it looked fine as far as the volume/tone device. There was no output from the volume/tone device, however.
We isolated the issue to the device. Power to the device was fine. Voltages at the device inputs and outputs didn’t look right. Measurements of the tone filter components located near the device were off as well. These are both signs of a bad device. We replaced the device and had the unit running great in no time. Look at those shiny solder joints, a sign of excellent workmanship!
