Meet Bob the Tech

“Bob the Tech” is an electrical engineer providing experienced McIntosh audio / video repair and restoration services since 2017. Bob the Tech Audio, LLC, founded in 2020 allows Bob to focus more time servicing and enjoying quality vintage audio. In these few years Bob has repaired or restored over 1000 McIntosh components of all types and vintages, maybe yours. We have the parts, tools, and technology to diagnose and repair your equipment. We work on the earliest vintage tube equipment to modern equipment with digital interfaces and surface mount technologies.

An audio fan since his teens, Bob spent his first fortune on an integrated amp, turntable, and cassette player. He and his friends enjoyed it for years.  Bob went on to Syracuse University, earning BS and MS degrees in Electrical Engineering.  After graduating, Bob worked for over 33 years at Lockheed Martin in many different engineering roles before retiring in 2021.

Bob the Tech worked at McIntosh Laboratories as a Senior Design Engineer

In 2021, Bob took a Senior Engineering position at McIntosh Labs in Binghamton, NY. In this, his dream job, he designed the TM4 tuner module and the MR89 AM/FM Tuner. He also designed an engineering test tool used for screening and grading EL509S vacuum tubes used in the MC3500 power amplifier. These efforts included electrical design, board layout, coordinating mechanical design, writing microcontroller software, and testing. Bob has in-depth knowledge of how the microcontroller interacts with the rest of the unit in modern McIntosh designs. This is one of the great advantages he brings to customers at Bob the Tech Audio, LLC.

Bob designed the latest McIntosh Laboratories MR89 AM/FM tuner

Bob left McIntosh Labs and re-joined Lockheed Martin part-time in 2023 in the role of Cyber/EW System Architect, Principal. The part-time role allows Bob the Tech to spend even more time repairing your vintage or modern McIntosh gear.

Bob began audio repair work with Audio Classics in 2017 in his spare time. Bob founded Bob the Tech Audio, LLC in 2020. As an independent company, Bob is able to work directly with you, the customer. Several of Bob’s findings have made it from his bench back to the McIntosh Labs factory. These insights are potentially improving McIntosh Laboratories products over time. Bob’s also worked on JBL, Pioneer, Adcom, Conrad Johnson, Crown, Fisher, Levinson, Marantz, and Wadia units.

When not repairing gear, Bob enjoys playing with his kids, working around the house, hiking, biking, swimming, and playing guitar and bass.  Bob’s recently taken up ham radio and restoring vintage HF radios and test equipment as well.  Find more about Bob and what he’s been working on at BobtheTechAudio.com.
