Our mission is to provide timely repair and quality workmanship for McIntosh Laboratories and other audiophile audio components. Our goal is to ensure your equipment looks and operates the way we want our equipment to look and operate.
What to expect from a repair at Bob the Tech Audio:
Quality workmanship
We pay attention to many small details in our rework that other shops may not. For example we:
- Mount replacement parts such that the part number and value are visible. This allows easier maintenance in the future.
- Provide expert soldering, and we clean our solder joints to remove residual flux.
- Clean front panel glass inside and out to remove any dust or fingerprints resulting from rework.
- Replace marred or stripped cover screws with new ones.
- Touch up cover paint or scratches we find.
Timely repair
We have the right tools and maintain a stock of replacement parts. The result is that we can often perform diagnostics and repair in one step. The result is a more timely repair of your McIntosh without sacrificing quality workmanship.
Quality replacement parts
Where possible, we use parts that match the original bill of materials. If parts for a vintage unit are unavailable, we’ll use the original parts data sheet to identify modern equivalents. We maintain a database of parts cross references and we keep equivalent parts in stock to minimize delays to your repair. Original and equivalent parts ensure proper performance.
Matched parts
Where performance relies on matched parts we replace both the faulty and the matching component to ensure the repair will perform its best.
Detailed status tracking of your repair
We keep complete records identifying the state of your job – evaluation, parts on order, in rework, or in final test. Contact us any time for the status of your job, we can share the latest updates.
Complete testing
- Functional checks verify that all front panel switches and buttons perform the intended function. We verify that all signal inputs and outputs are operating properly.
- Performance testing includes Total Harmonic Distortion measurement, rated output power, and output power for 1% distortion (amplifiers). We ensure your unit is performing to specification.
- We can even sweep the frequency response of your unit to ensure phono equalization, loudness, and equalizer functions are operating properly.
Comprehensive report
We generate a complete report to provide you the details of what we find and repair. We keep these reports on file to reference if we maintain your unit again.
